The Poinsettia Bowl is a college football event that is held annually at the Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. It is an NCAA-sanctioned bowl game that was formed in 2005. At present, the Poinsettia Bowl is under sponsorship, like most college football bowls, by the San Diego County Credit Union, giving it the full title of San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. In 2008, the Poinsettia Bowl begun featuring a team from the sides of Mountain West Conference and a team from that of the Pac-10 side.

Being home to a number of naval bases, the Poinsettia Bowl of San Diego gave invitations to naval base academies to send in entries from their college football teams. This practice is acceptable so long as the midshipmen from these naval academies are bowl-eligible. To date, the Navy has been given bowl invitations for 2008, 2009, and 2010. Ineligibility for the bowl would forfeit the opportunity and would cause a reshuffling or replacement from a different conference. If only army teams were eligible for the bowl, they too would have received invitation for the Poinsettia Bowl for the bowl game season.

For the 2006 Poinsettia Bowl, the teams of Texas Christian University and Northern Illinois went face to face having TCU win the game with a score of 37-7. On a side note, Navy won the game against North Texas, setting a record with the NCAA for the most number of points made in a college football game. This win merited another invitation for Navy to the 2007 games where it went against the Utah Utes.
